Jess Roams Around Singapore

Singapore is one of the best place to explore with your family, friends, special someone or for soul searching. Why? Because it’s the place that is so easy to explore. Good people everywhere that are willing to help you if you happen to get lost in the middle of the busy street. Clean place and no traffic! Ahh imagine living in this kind of place. Well, I won’t mind the strict policies though.
When they say that the world’s top airport is the Singapore Changi Airport, got to witness it with my own eyes. The place is so cozy and hi -tech facilities are also everywhere. We even slept for a while at the airport since our arrival was on midnight. To get you to the train station, ride a bus located at terminal 4 to get you to terminal 2. Bus arrives and leaves every 10 minutes.

When connecting to the wifi, you need to scan your passport.

Places we visited

China town

Looking for souvenirs, cute stuffs or something to eat? Then stop by at Chinatown. It was a haven for a vegetarian like me coz they serve delicious meal. Expensive? To tell you honestly, I over expected that it will really cost us a lot, but the price is just like the ones we have in the resto at PH. 200 PHP per serving isn’t that bad if the food served is so good (unless you eat at the restaurant). There is also budget food at the hawkers.

We bought tapa and pork floss here for pasalubong. You need to reach a certain amount so you can get a tax refund which you can exchange at the airport.
The food offered was eaten by the bird 😅
Vegetarian's haven.

Marina Bay Sands

One of the tourist attractions and it will be a waste not to visit this place coz that will mean no pictures at the famous half-fish, half-lion, the Merlion and the iconic hotel Marina Bay Sands. We dropped off at Marina Bay station and we had to walk so far. We should have dropped off at the Bayfront station which is nearer. My dad and aunts were exhausted due to a very long walk and empty tummy that time.

Singapore Zoo

Booked our tickets at Wildlife Reserves Singapore. From Clark Quay, we took an MRT going to Khatib MRT under red lane (NS14) to take a shuttle going to the Singapore zoo. After we arrived at the Khatib MRT, we got lost since we do not know where the shuttle was and we asked some of the locals and they also do not know. We were waiting at the bus stop and one lady asked us where we are headed and then she told us that the waiting area is at the other side. There were signs to where the shuttle was, but it was a bit confusing since it ends directly to a certain area.

At first, I was a bit hesitant to visit this place since I am not that a fan of zoos but my friends who had visited Singapore zoo assured me that the place is good. Dolphin show, elephant show, you will be amazed how these lovely animals are so adorable and so smart.

River Safari

The place was spacious and not a lot of animals were there. Most of the animals in the River Safari are aquatic but the reason I wanted to visit here is because of the cute pandas. Not like any other zoos in which you need to line up and go inside once, in the River Safari, you got to see the pandas up close with no glass. Not sure if pandas are irritated of all the stares, selfies, flashes of the camera and giggles of the tourists though but when we visited there, Kaikai was so playful and wanted some attention while An-an was just inside the room and we just got to see her on the mini TV displayed in the area. There were also cute red pandas and koala which were confined in the air-conditioned room. Red Panda was also playful. It just goes running from place to place.

Universal Studios

Booked our tickets at Klook. Not just kids will enjoy this place but as well as adults! From Clark Quay, we took North East line (violet lane) going to Harbourfront station. From the Harbourfront station, walk into the Vivo city mall and go to the level 3 to board the Senotsa express.

I was really looking forward to visit this place because of the rides. The popular ride  was the Transformers and even my dad and aunts wanted to try it again, but the line was so long. Imagine we waited for 2 hours but the ride was so worth it. Another personal favorite was the Jurrasic Park Rapid Adventure, but my dad got moody after riding this since his feet got wet because of the splashing water upon exiting. There are drier pods but for a cost. Madagascar is also a chill ride and the Puss and Boots Giant was also a cool ride that my dad and 1 of my aunts really enjoyed it. The Lights Camera Action was also not bad that make us wonder how amazing those effects that felt surreal. We missed to try the popular ride, Gallactica which is the famous one and the Revenge of the Mummy because of the advance fear we felt that time.

There are maps in the entrance area so make sure to plan what ride to take first or you can pay for an express lane to skip the queue or if you are OK to ride in solo, then you can line in a shorter line. There was also a meet and greet of your favorite characters or you can watch dance numbers as per  the schedule.

Treasure hunters ride. We waited almost 2 hours for this ride and my dad's tantrums started... Can you see the look in his face? 😨
I really enjoyed this ride but make sure to bring some raincoat or some sandals maybe as you will get wet on this ride.
Took a picture at late afternoon since the crowd gets thinner

Our Lunch meal. Vegetarian noodles and for my dad and brother, hainanese chicken

Gardens by The Bay

Our last day at Singapore and our flight back to Cebu was still evening so we headed back to the Gardens by the Bay. Via The Circle Line Or Downtown Line, alight at Bayfront MRT Station (CE1/DT16) Take Exit B and follow the underground link way. Exit and cross the Dragonfly Bridge or Meadow Bridge into Gardens by the Bay.The best time to visit this place is on evening due to the beautiful lights. Walking at this place on daytime with the direct sun makes you feel dizzy. After visiting this place, we got inside the Marina Bay Sands and the famous mall, Orchard. We also stopped by Bugis, Little India and Farrer Park.

Vegetarian fried rice and noodles. All carbs but we are Asian so we don't care 😆

Where to eat

Looking for a vegetarian menu at Singapore was not that hard since everywhere we look, there are vegetarian options. As you know, me and my aunts were vegetarian but my dad and brother were not. So here are some of the food we ate and I also included some meat food/resto if you want to try them out.

Song Fa bah kut teh

The famous Michelin star restaurant located at 11 New Bridge Road (Clark Quay) and this place was just right in the corner to where we stayed. Not surprised with the long line since there was also a branch of this restaurant at Chinatown and the crowd of customers were not that abundant. My dad wanted to try eating at this place but was discouraged due to the long lines. He regretted it after 😆. My brother though tried eating at this place with his friend and that makes my dad regret more 😂.

McDonald's

A joke that when you go to other countries, you will end up eating at McDonald's. But who cares if the menu are way too different and you just wanted to try it. The price of the food were not that friendly though. Imagine ordering a cup of coffee and the price was like a Starbucks in PH 😞.
My dad's order. Hash brown in a wrap
This porridge is a vegetarian. Yummy and healthy food.

Bugis Street

Bugis is not just known for their cheap goodies or for its pasalubong center. We strolled at the place and found the famous refresher and sandwich ice cream.
Due to a very hot day, try some refreshers with real fruit pulps.

You can't just miss trying this ice cream sandwich. Very different with the Frost Bites in Philippines.

Yi Xin Vegetarian Food

One thing I wanna go back to SG is because of this restaurant! Located at Chinatown which is a few km away at where we stayed. We got back to this place twice not because of no other options but because, it really tasted good. The price was not that expensive (around 200 PHP each order) and considering the abundant ingredients of the food, you will surely won't regret it. My personal favorite was the Vegetarian Laksa. I am posting each of a kind below of what we devoured that time because why not? I super love it!
Vegetarian dumpling
Vegetarian Chicken
Vegetarian Satay
Vegetarian Laska
No seafood added
Herbal Soup
A very refreshing feeling after tasting this bowl of soup after a very tiring day

Accommodation

City Backpackers @Hongkong Street (Clark Quay)

What is good at this place? It’s just at Clark Quay. It is also just near the MRT, free Wifi,  very accessible and there is a mall just few meters away. We booked our hostel at Traveloka for a very good price. Upon entering to this place, you must climb steep stairs and will be very challenging if you are bringing a huge suitcase or bag. The room was not that bad, and the CR is shared but clean. The staff was a Filipino and was very hospitable and helpful. The only problem we had at this place were the bedbugs. Imagine we had packed 3 bedbugs and brought it at home. But overall, the place is good, and definitely will book again to this place because of the good location and cheap price.

Price: 2,786.64 PHP per night / 464 PHP each
